Build November 12, 2024

Summary

Adversaries have been reintroduced to BitCraft.

The way settlements and characters interact has been redesigned.

Ruined towns where friendly travelers provide the basic amenities have been added for new players to take their first steps in Bitcraft without requiring to build their own claims.

Enemies, Combat, Stamina

  • Completely overhauled enemy AI to be more responsive and dynamic to players.
  • Added aggressive enemies to the game. More spawn at night and near destructible spawners. More enemy types will be coming soon.
  • Enemies can attack buildings, weaker buildings like workstations and storage will be attractive to attack whereas stronger buildings like walls won’t be attacked.
Be sure to wall in your settlement to protect your structures.
  • Re-introduced light sources which can ward off enemies.
  • Buildings can now be repaired for free by anyone.
  • Introduced a new activity “Monster Slaying” which involves using weapons and armor to take out aggressive enemies in the world. Monster slaying is currently separate from hunting, but we are considering merging these better in the future.
  • Updated Resting and Food to have less downtime waiting for stats to regenerate.
Food is now more mandatory to prevent starving and is also essential for keeping your character energized. At the same time the burden of how much food you need has been lessened.

Settlements

  • Public Crafting Stations — All crafting is now mostly phased to your character and non-disruptive towards other players.
  • Initial cost of starting a settlement is higher and requires an item bought from a traveler, however maintaining a large settlement is easier.
  • Claims can now have barter stalls draw and deposit coins directly to and from the claim treasury.
  • Claims will now generate hex coins based on the amount of EXP players are gaining in your claim. Making a more popular claim will generate you more money.
  • Coins can now be converted directly into supplies at a traveler.
  • Added Claim Stability which rewards more contiguous claims in terms of maintenance cost.
  • Players can now own multiple claims.

Character Progression

  • A neutral claim settlement has been added which players can use to advance through the first two tiers without requiring players to build their own settlement. It also acts as a social and trade hub for players in the early game.
  • The prototype of a new Bank type building which allows each player to store items and cargo in a safe way has been added.
  • A new biome for the starting area with a full array of T1 resources and no enemies has been added.
  • Added a bunch of new stats which offer a wider array of progression and customization.
  • Reintroduced functional clothing which gives stats and has visual appearances. Your character will be shown wearing their current equipment but can be overridden to wear any collected appearances. Old equipment can be consumed to collect that appearance. Cloth, leather metal all give stats which lend to different activities.
  • Replaced power sources with new jewelry slot and automata heart which can be upgraded by progressing through a exploration quest across the world.
  • Deployables now have more progression upgrades which require schematics from travelers.

Economy

  • Add Trade Finder window to search for trades anywhere in the world grouped by claim.
  • Settlements can now be seen on the map even when map is not uncovered.
  • Adjusted amounts of coins found in world and from all trades.

Other Improvements

  • Re-added Experience drops in UI.
  • Added a wallet slot for coins in your inventory.
  • Overhaul inventory item stacking amounts for player inventory and storage.
  • Updated Character, Equipment and Profession UI to better show your tools, weapons, stats and profession levels.
  • Expanded the entity labeling system.
  • Added the concept of secondary professions to UI, this will be expanded on more in future updates.
  • Updated controls to allow better customization over how you control your character and interact with the world.
  • Canceling in progress crafting recipes now refunds items.
  • Re-introduced pavings/roads giving stats.
  • Added a new waystone type building which allows teleporting to other waystones.
Can be found in ruined towns and can be built by players.
  • Add prototype elevator building to make going across cliffs more easy.
  • Music has been updated and new music has been added across the game.
  • Carts will visually reflect how full their storage is.
  • When gathering and crafting, items will be sent to / pulled from nearby deployables you own.
  • While terraforming, you can set a “destination height” you will continue to terraform until.
  • Crits have been removed.
    (for now)
  • Trees can only be placed in their respective biome, and sapling drop rate has been adjusted.
  • Added an inspect mode to toggle on building/deployable names, as well as show remaining time on crafts.
  • Map icons have been updated, and you can now track map markers.
  • Added a setting so you can click on the minimap to move.
  • Achievements are visible even if you have not unlocked the previous prerequisite.
  • While a player is logged out, their deployables will not be visible.
