November 2022

Hi everyone!

As you know from the previous Producer Letter, we’ve been hard at work on pre-alpha update 8 for a while now. I wanted to give you a quick update on where we’re at, but more importantly, how and when we’ll be testing it.

A quick reminder, the goal of this update is to:

  1. Ship a new, more satisfying movement system
  2. Expand our world and make it more interesting
  3. Add more stuff to do, by introducing a first version of farming, and adding a layer of polish to both fishing and hunting.

The release is going well. The new movement system is, as expected, a little janky from time to time, but it’s already starting to feel more smooth and natural. For those who have tested a previous build, even being a bit rough around the edges, we expect the game will feel MUCH better.

Fishing, hunting, and farming feel very different compared to some of the other skills after our revision, providing a much needed contrast to mining and forestry. It really has felt like a great start towards our long term goal of making all the skills feel unique.

Also, did I mention there are boats? You can build boats! You can sail them into the ocean and fish. I love it.

Anyway, let’s move on to the test itself: we’re planning to run a three day test, starting Friday, November 18th until Sunday, November 20th.

Previously, for tests like this, we’ve randomly selected players who had signed up via email. This time around, we’re going to do it a bit differently. First of all, we’ve made big adjustments to movement and we’re really looking to validate that it feels better than what we had, we’re going to be reinviting a group of previous testers. Second, since we’re returning to a schedule of larger public tests again, we’ll be sending invites to some of our most passionate players in our Discord community, as a token of appreciation. But wait, there’s more! All players who receive an invite will be able to invite a friend.

As a REALLY important reminder: we’re in pre-alpha. Expect to see things that won’t be in the final version of the game. Expect things to be janky. Generally, this is the earliest a company can show what they’re working on, so bear with us.

That’s it! We’re super excited to show what we’ve been up to.
Shortly after the actual test, I’ll do another update to tell you what we’re working on next.

Hugs and potatoes,

Stoffer
